Public health, urban planning, and research experts participate in the “From Data to Action” event, organized by MePreCiSa

On June 12, the Vèrtex building of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) hosted the workshop “From Data to Action: Urban Health in a Changing World” organized by the MePreCiSa project and in collaboration with the cyCLONE-CLIMATICAT project, both developed by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC).
The event brought together several leading figures in public health, urban planning, and research to discuss the latest issues related to developing healthy and resilient cities through the intelligent use of data. The workshop featured representatives from leading institutions such as ISGlobal, the University of Oxford, the BSC, the Catalan Public Health Agency, and RTVE.
The day began with a welcome talk by Antoni Plasència, Director General of Research and Innovation in Health at the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Attendees then enjoyed the speakers’ presentations, which were divided into three main sections: “Urban Planning”, “Pandemics”, and “Climate Change”. At the end of each section, the audience was able to share their questions and thoughts with the speakers. It is worth noting that the auditorium of the Vèrtex building welcomed more than 30 workshop attendees, including researchers from leading institutions and representatives of the public administration.
The workshop concluded with a roundtable discussion titled “Gender Perspective in Health and Climate”, featuring representatives from the BSC, the Barcelona Open Data Initiative, and the UPC. The panel enriched the day with a debate on the role of women in the face of the climate crisis and how to develop policies that promote a gender perspective.
This event was an initiative of the BSC, a European leader in high-performance computing and data science applied to major societal challenges. Through its commitment to cutting-edge research, the BSC strives to build bridges between science, technology, and public decision-making, with the aim of designing real solutions for the cities of the future.
